mmm, If you like the Tiger look made by apple, just buy a Mac ;) you wont be let down :D it actually is the best OS I have ever seen!

And I work with Windows (starting with DOS, 95, 98, ME, 2000pro and finally XP) but also Linux (both Ubuntu and Knoppix) and since a year of two with apple (OS9.2 then All versions of OSX and recently I actuall bought Tiger for my Mac) :)

Yeah I was considering it actually.... Its terrible. Im just so set in my ways with windows. I can fix pretty much anything that goes wrong. I know how it works... its just easy... Though I would love to get one of those wicked apple laptops that have no fans.... hmmmm silent love :D

indeed: all that goes WRONG ;)

for me: after having battle with the install cd of XP for about a full WEEK! I decided on something. My secondhand PowerMac that I bought for video editing, purely school stuff in other words, was still under the table and hadn't run for 3 months. Soooo. I gave it power, a screen, its usbkeyboard and mouse.....and the Machine with OSXPanther came to live. I put the VLC player on it to play DivX, updated iTunes up to version 5, ran all other updates. Installed Adium in order to chat and made some setting edits in Safari, after also installing Firefox.

A few days later I gave the thing 1Gig of Ram. By putting four 256Mb SDRam blocks in it. At the same time I spend my painfully saved money and bought OSX Tiger.

Since the startup of the mac, my new AMD powerd pc with 80Gb of HD.......has been silent and dead. I will have to install XP in order to run Photoshop........since I dont like spending money on someting I already have......and a few files like my digital archive of 4Gb (all collected photo's) and 90% of my music (1148 files) still exists in one of the 40Gb disks......*sigh*

ah well, I have noooo problems with the change and so far: It even lets me edit LaTeX :D SO for me: to HELL with non Unix based systems ;)

hehehe.... sounds like a lot of grief..... PLUS mac = WAY less virsuses and spyware... true??? I guess it depends what you do with it, but yeah, I coul definitely have a slice of that. Virii are the bane of my life grrrr..... ;p Sounds like your new machine is cruising. GOod to have the PC up and running too though... I've never had problems with XP setup. Maybe an hour of waiting and clicking etc, but Ive never had more than that.... Blue Screens of Death.... I wouldnt miss those ^^; maybe i will move over in a year or two....

it is virus free :D because its Unix based, and thus Journeld. Bear with me on this one....but it means that IF things get F*cked up simply put in the OS cd (or DVD with Tiger) and it will restore the OS and obout 90% of the time all settings will be the same as before. But in 99% of the times a nice restart will do fine.

IF you need to restart at all

Did I mention I put a ATi Radeon 9000Pro 128Mb graphics card in it :D gotta love video editing :boogie:
The whole Mac NEVER ever heats up like a pc. not even while bussy with video became the CPU hot like a well cooled AMD........thats just freaky you know :| I could TOUCH the bloody thing! it was a near as well......warm, somewhat.... :D
The ATi became a bit above warm to :)

Might have something to do with the (standard) über HUGE 10" (might be 8"...dunno ,its BIG anyway) cooling fan that sits in the side of the cpmputer case abd just SUCKS in air from the back through a windtunnel and dumps huge lumps of fresh air into the case

Gosh.... all sounds a bit too good to be true ;) sosososo nice! Sounds like your very proud of your new baby
I used to have an ati card and I live in a really dusty house. The fan got clogged and the card was running at 109 degrees.... gosh... clearing the fan it still ran at 80 degrees. You can cook on that surface! I dont need heating in my room, just turn on the computer for half an hour and its sweet :D

ooooh my........:| that aint healthy.... ever heard of airflow??? darn....

sell your pc
save all data on cd's (in case of dvd: use a -R, not a +R)
buy a mac (eMac is cool, miniMac is stylish, iMac is fun, PowerMac......costs to much, but has liqued coooooling)
Apple Notebooks rule :D

:D I myself have a second hand 500Mhz G4 powerd PowerMac =p
