for me: after having battle with the install cd of XP for about a full WEEK! I decided on something. My secondhand PowerMac that I bought for video editing, purely school stuff in other words, was still under the table and hadn't run for 3 months. Soooo. I gave it power, a screen, its usbkeyboard and mouse.....and the Machine with OSXPanther came to live. I put the VLC player on it to play DivX, updated iTunes up to version 5, ran all other updates. Installed Adium in order to chat and made some setting edits in Safari, after also installing Firefox.
A few days later I gave the thing 1Gig of Ram. By putting four 256Mb SDRam blocks in it. At the same time I spend my painfully saved money and bought OSX Tiger.
Since the startup of the mac, my new AMD powerd pc with 80Gb of HD.......has been silent and dead. I will have to install XP in order to run Photoshop........since I dont like spending money on someting I already have......and a few files like my digital archive of 4Gb (all collected photo's) and 90% of my music (1148 files) still exists in one of the 40Gb disks......*sigh*
ah well, I have noooo problems with the change and so far: It even lets me edit LaTeX

IF you need to restart at all
Did I mention I put a ATi Radeon 9000Pro 128Mb graphics card in it
The whole Mac NEVER ever heats up like a pc. not even while bussy with video became the CPU hot like a well cooled AMD........thats just freaky you know
The ATi became a bit above warm to
Might have something to do with the (standard) über HUGE 10" (might be 8"...dunno ,its BIG anyway) cooling fan that sits in the side of the cpmputer case abd just SUCKS in air from the back through a windtunnel and dumps huge lumps of fresh air into the case

I used to have an ati card and I live in a really dusty house. The fan got clogged and the card was running at 109 degrees.... gosh... clearing the fan it still ran at 80 degrees. You can cook on that surface! I dont need heating in my room, just turn on the computer for half an hour and its sweet
